This Student’s Invention Can Change The Way We Use Plastic Forever

Americans throw away about 35 billion plastic bottles every year. The problem is, it takes a 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose (?!!?)

A new conceptual design by a industrial design student from the Icelandic Academy of Arts, Ari Jónsson for a water bottle is at the opposite extreme: Immediately after you drink it, it starts to fall apart. And if you don’t want to throw the bottle away, you can eat it.

It was first presented at a design festival in Reykjavik.

Ari was worried what is going on with our planet so he decided to do something.

“I found out that 50% of all plastic is used only once and than thrown away and we all know how plastic effects our enviroment. That’s why i come up with this idea.We need to replace all that plastic.”

“We should ask ourselves, why are we using materials that take hundreds of years to break down in nature to drink from once and then throw away,” says Jónsson.

“I can’t claim that this is the perfect solution for our problem with plastic bottles,” says Jónsson. “But it’s a start and an idea that hopefully helps us to look at new ways to solve the problem … Switching to reusable bottles is also great, but that will have its pros and cons, just like my project, the more ways we can tackle this issue the better.”

His new biodegradable bottle design is made from a jelly-like material called agar. It’s here today, gone tomorrow.

The bottle also has another unusual advantage over plastic–it naturally stays cool, even in hot weather.

If the bottle remains full of water it will keep its shape, as soon as it’s empty it starts to decompose – you couldn’t ask for a better alternative.

We just hope that the world will found out about this brilliant idea.Who says you can’t change the world ? Please SHARE this amazing story.
